About Carrie Girl



Karen Maryann Pereira was born in Kuwait on Saturday, June 6th 1970 to George Simon Pereira and Jennifer Yvonne Pereira. Karen was the eldest of four children. She was a big sister, mother, mentor and a friend!

Karen spent her initial years in Kuwait studying in Carmel school from Kindergarten to Grade 2 and then went to live with her maternal grandparents in Belgaum. Karen studied Grade 3 in Sacred Hearts School, Kulshekar, Mangalore. She then studied and lived in boarding school from Grade 4 to 10 in St. Mary's Girls High School, Mangalore. Karen went to Pre-University and University at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.

After working in Mumbai and Dubai she moved to Canada in 1997. Karen was an employee of Chubb Insurance,Toronto when she passed away.

Karen met the love of her life and married Aaron Pereira in May 17, 1994. She and Aaron have two beautiful children ~ Kane Julian Pereira and Candice Rachel Pereira.

Karen touched many people in her short life and her memory lives on. Karen was known by family and friends as a lively, warm person who besides devoting herself to her family loved to entertain and cook. As a visitor to her home you could not miss the plaque on the kitchen wall that said - 'Karen's Kitchen'. This was her place, her sanctuary.

Remembering what she loved to do - write recipes, share them with friends, discuss tips to easy cooking and some wonderful memories around her dining table.

Karen passed away at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto on Sunday, October 26, 2003 after a brave battle with Leukemia. She is interred at Holy Cross Cemetery (Bayview and Langstaff).
